So what exactly is blogging all about?

Today is the first day I’ve written something in a blog, ever…honestly, still not sure what exactly to write about but I will do so since a couple of fellow teaching candidates are doing so which inspired me to strike out on my own…

I “created” this site today, almost a month after creating a raft of possible blog names on WordPress: MathSymmetry, BeyondCalculi & Mathematiks were most liked by reviewers.  I went with MathSymmetry for a while, with no posts, until I decided I had an issue with the title; not all math is symmetric, so there could be confusion.  My initial vision for a blog was math mirrors life and life mirrors math but I could not see how to maintain that consistently.

Inspired by my teaching program with its emphasis on social justice and equity, and my wish to make math equitably accessible to all who try to learn, I give this site its name: mathequality.wordpress.com.  Also, math centers on equations, equals signs (“=”), and equality so “MathEquality” it is!

Wish me luck!!
